　ヴィーク・イ・ミーダルは[[北大西洋|大西洋]]岸の磯浜に面す小さな集落で、人口は、300人前後。東方には、沿岸部に冷涼沙漠が続く。
//西にはセリャラントスフォスとスコガフォスの２つの滝があり、北にはミーダルスヨークトル氷河が広がる。

　近傍の海岸は黒い砂礫で、海蝕で形成された火山岩の奇岩群も散在。地域の民話では、「奇岩群は、うっかり暁の光を浴びてしまったトロールが化石したもの」と言われている。

　北から[[高地|アイスランド高地]]外縁の断崖が海岸近くまで迫っているヵ所もある。夏季には海鳥が多く訪れる。
